Building shelters using nothing but what is there. Quite tricky as we found out…
If you happen to be a nomadic stone aged tribe, how do you build a shelter?
Choosing the right sticks helps.
Working together as a team helps too.
Running off with someone else’s sticks doesn’t help but is quite funny to watch…
This shelter is based on the classic tee-pee style.
This one has the odd rain hole in it.
Or are they windows?
Um, couple of walls missing there lads – I thing a saber tooth might get through that!
In the role of stone aged estate agents, we tried to ‘sell’ our shelters.
And then we pulled them down for the afternoon group.
We did this very safely and sensibly.
So nobody got stuck under a pile of sticks.
A different approach here – wedging a stick between two trees and then piling ‘stuff’ up against it.
This one was built with the well known 80:20 ration in mind. 80% Miss Taylor…
Good effort dragging the stick.
A well earned rest.
Having fallen over for the umpteenth time, sitting down was the only option in this case!
Hot choc in the shelter.
A last smile before the hard work starts again.
Uuggh. It’s sooooo heavy!
This shelter had its own drawbridge.
Trying it out. I’ll leave the rest to your imagination. Let’s just say, no mammoth is getting across.
A happy group of shelter builders.
